Summer Selah: How to Respond When Life Hurts_Part 3
We explore Psalm 22, a Messianic Psalm of David, with a review of the background of that genre of Scripture and how Judaism looked for a Messiah. This Psalm is the most quoted one in the New Testament. It proclaims a few of the many prophecies concerning the Messiah, the anointed One, that were fulfilled in the life of Jesus Christ.
Christ is the Greek transliteration of the Hebrew word for Messiah, the anointed One, and is found over 560 times in the NT. This Psalm reveals the very honest and realistic hurt of being forsaken by God in the midst of attacks of those who opposed David. We discover that there are three main sections of the Psalm: 1. The Problem and Cry of the Forsaken One ( v. 1-10) ; 2-Plea for Help (v11-21); and last 3. Praise and Proclamation (v. 22-31) As we read and begin to interpret we discover some excellent practical steps we can take to draw closer to the Lord in our lives when Life Hurts. The Psalm in some ways takes David from the feeling that God is No Where, to a place where God is NOW Here! When Life Hurts we find that it is okay to : 1. Cry out to God by asking the Why question. 2.Remember the past ways God answered prayer. 3. Explain the Present Need, and 4. Express Feelings and Trust in God. 5. Realize God will never leave you. 6. Giving God Praise and Proclaiming His Name and Glory ; 7-He Has Done it (It is Finished) Faith in Christ, the Messiah, triumphs over all circumstances. This Psalm ministers to us by showing us how to pray, process and trust our anointed one, Jesus Christ.
